The Big Gig may be bracing for its final weekend, but they're also already looking ahead to next year as Summerfest announced its dates for next year's rendition this morning.

The music festival will maintain its new three-weekend format but return to the middle of the summer, taking place June 23-25, June 30 through July 2 and July 7-9. Each weekend will range Thursday from Saturday, opening from noon until midnight each day. 

More updates and headliner announcements are expected over the following months. However, next year's lineup already has one act locked in according to the Big Gig's website: Justin Bieber, originally booked to perform at the festival in 2020 but postponed to June 24, 2022 due to the pandemic. 

As for this year's Big Gig, Summerfest also announced that it will extend the hours for free admission on Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 18. Attendees can now get in for free from noon until 7 p.m. Plus, the first 30,000 attendees will receive a free ticket for next year's Big Gig.

That said, it was the only viable option to accommodate artists and fans within this fluid environment,” said Don Smiley, President and CEO of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., in a release. "Our team pulled it off and provided an economic boost to the local economy and gave patrons live outdoor music on the lakefront. We want to thank all our attendees, vendors and sponsors for their support – we can’t wait to see them again next year."
