Now that Hunger Task Force's Sherrie Tussler has announced her retirement, she's downsizing and putting her lovingly renewed 1889 cream city brick house at 3402 W. St. Paul Ave. in Merrill Park, on the market.

Asking price for the 2,869-square-foot house, which has completely updated windows, electrical and plumbing, is $439,900.

See the full listing for the home, with many more photos, here.

The home – designed by Edward V. Koch, who also designed the "other" Lion House and the Metropolitan Block Downtown – was built for Samuel Weinstock in the Queen Anne and Gothic Revival styles.

You can read much more about the German-born Weinstock, and about the home he had built for his retirement, as well as Tussler's and the City of Milwaukee's work to save it in this Urban Spelunking story.

Perhaps ironically, while Weinstock built the house to spend his retirement there, Tussler, who is stepping down in June after 26 years as CEO of Hunger Task Force, is looking for something a little more manageable.

The house has three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two half baths and two fireplaces. It sits on a 4,792-square-foot corner lot with a fenced back garden.

"I am downsizing to a 1,300-square-foot home," says Tussler. "I bought a house in my hometown, Racine."

When Tussler bought the house in 2012 to call it a fixer-upper would have been charitable.  She expended no small effort in returning it to glory and now it is surely among one of the most stunning homes in the city.

"I put a lot of work into the Weinstock House," says Tussler, "and leaving it with someone who will respect it is important to me."
