It's Day 4 of the Milwaukee Film Festival, the Packers are currently winning (*knocks on wood*) and I've got another batch of recommendations for you. But in case all of that isn't exciting enough for you, today's three to see picks come with a very special guest!
Indeed, before we dig into my picks – ranging from a local music showcase on the big screen to a gangster drama from a Chinese master and a documentary that may be more fiction to truth – I got the honor of chatting with Jennie Livingston, the director of the iconic '90s drag ball documentary "Paris is Burning" and the 2019 Milwaukee Film Festival keynote speaker. Let's see what she has to say about looking back her influential film, the state of cinema today and discovering the glory of the Oriental Theatre. And then let's see some movies!
- "Ash Is Purest White" will screen at 4 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre
- "Jezebel" will screen at 5:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre
- "The Milwaukee Music Video Show" will screen at 8:30 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre
- "The Untitled Amazing Johnathan Documentary" will screen at 10 p.m. at the Oriental Theatre

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
