Just days after the City of Wauwatosa announced it has purchased the former Boston Store building at Mayfair Mall, ground was broken on another apartment complex in the area, which has seen an explosion of apartment construction in recent years.

Chicago-based M&R Development kicked off construction of a 258-unit luxury apartment building called 2929 on Mayfair, located at – wait for it – 2929 N. Mayfair Rd., across the street from Bluemound Golf and Country Club.

It joins residential developments to the northwest at the Mayfair Collection, as well as to the south on Mayfair Road south of North Avenue and on North, west of Mayfair, to name a few. Trinity Woods, the residential complex on the Mount Mary University campus was also recently completed.

The five-story 2929 on Mayfair, developed in partnership with Campbell Capital Group is expected to be ready for tenants in August 2023.

“After the resounding success of our first two Wisconsin projects, Elevate in Madison and 42 Hundred on the Lake, just south of Milwaukee, we remain bullish on developing in the Badger State and anticipate 2929 on Mayfair will prove to be another fast-leasing apartment development that meets the needs of today’s renters,” said Anthony Rossi Sr., managing partner of M&R Development, in a statement Wednesday.
“The Wauwatosa area is a thriving major center for commercial, medical, biotech and retail development, and strong future job growth is expected over the next decade, so there is a definite need for new upscale rental housing.”
The new development will contain amenities like a pool, cabanas, pickleball courts and firepits in an outdoor courtyard, and, inside, a fitness center, club room, lounge and business center with private meting rooms.
The studio, convertible, one-, two- and three-bedroom units will have fancy kitchen touches, including steel appliances, bathrooms with subway tile and other amenities like smart thermostats, 9-foot ceilings, lighted ceiling fans in all bedrooms, and full-size washers and dryers. Most will have balconies and some will have walk-in closets.
While there will be three levels of parking (of course), at least there will also be electric vehicle charging stations and a free bike sharing station, bike storage and a repair station.
The complex was designed by Virginia’s Poole & Poole Architects and is being built by Madison-based Stevens Construction. RMK Management manage and lease the property.
