Art students at Sheboygan South High School have designed a unique label for a root beer soda made by nearby 3 Sheeps Brewing, 1837 North Ave.

In addition to having artwork created by the students, the label has an embedded removable sticker.

Proceeds from sales of the root beer will benefit the school’s art department.

It will be released in time for a Friday, March 21 taproom gathering for students, teachers, family, friends and fans. Root beer floats will be available for purchase at the event.

The label was designed by students Koi Vang and Evelyn Meyer, whose artwork was chosen from an array of concepts created by students.

The chosen design includes a cartoon sheep playfully tubing down a river with the 3 Sheeps brewery on a hilltop in the background where other sheep can be seen lounging and playing.

“A lot of ideas were scratched. We didn’t know what we were doing at first, but eventually, we got the label created,” Vang says.

The idea was sparked by Sheboygan’s Gretchen Tillman, who saw a sticker label online and suggested the collaboration to SHS Art Teacher Brian Sommersberger and 3 Sheeps Marketing Communications Manager Josh Aschenbach.

“I was hard on them. Every little detail mattered,” says Aschenbach, who worked with the kids alongside fellow art teachers Kevin Bazan and Brian Sommersberger.

“This project was an incredible experience for our students, providing hands-on learning that aligns with college and career readiness which are our goals at South High School,” says Sommersberger.

“Seeing their artwork on the final product was a powerful moment for the students, reinforcing the impact of their hard work and creativity. Designing a label that will be sold on a product – how cool is that?”

Vang and Meyer were at 3 Sheeps on March 4 to witness the canning process and tour the brewery.

"This collaboration is a testament to the power of community partnerships and the lasting impact of arts education,” says Sommersberger.
