A week after UWM architecture and urban planning students shared the results of a semester-long seminar looking at the potential for development in the I-794 corridor Downtown, the DoT has announced another public open house around its study of options for the freeway spur.

WisDOT – which is continuing its I-794 Lake Interchange Study in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration, the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County – is planning to issue a Notice of Intent this year to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

As part of that process, a series of public involvement meetings will be held to share more information on options for the spur – including removal, replacement in kind and replacement with improvements – with detailed data on traffic, multimodal accommodations and other facets.

It will also gather public feedback on the options.

The first of these meetings is set for Thursday, May 29, 4-7 p.m., at the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown, 625 N. Milwaukee St.

All of the options for the freeway segment will be part of the Environmental Review and one of them will be selected through the Environmental Impact Statement for implementation.

A final decision is not expected before 2027.
