Late last week, I wrote about a new radio station in Sacramento, Calif., that focuses on music of the '90s.
Nothing is official yet, but Milwaukee could be getting a little taste of the '90s, too.
I got an e-mail from this morning from an Entercom insider who thanked me for the nice piece and said I should keep listening. I didn't think anything of it until later in the day, when a local radio message board had posts about the same employee dropping hints on his Facebook page.
After logging on, I found a lot of subtle references to the decade, including song lyrics and some lines I heard used in the imaging for the original station in Sacramento.
In a follow-up e-mail, my pal at Entercom said I should check out the station's Web page tomorrow and included a couple more references to the '90s. He did, however, point out that a full station flip isn't on the agenda.
What's this mean? It's anybody's guess. Radio stations often "stunt" in order to change things up or give stagnant ratings a jump-start. As a whole, local music radio is struggling to survive as iPods explode in growth and satellite radio offers a wider, yet more specific variety, depending on a listeners' tastes.
In the meantime, let the guessing games begin. Kidd O'Shea and Elizabeth Kay kick off their morning show at 5 a.m. and our insider tells us that the Web site will be updated by then.
