I talked with cocktail wizard Dan Dufek from Hi-Hat Lounge, 1710 N. Arlington Pl., this week about Beggar's Banquet, the new ridiculously affordable monthly dinner he's helped put together with Chef Rebecca Berkshire and fellow mixology master Chad Doll.
The three-course meal will feature craft cocktails paired with each course; all centered around a certain theme. Monday's inaugural dinner theme is American Whiskey, with the tastes and ingredients of both the drinks and food reflecting that.
"We are kind of just playing off of flavors in the dishes and the drinks," said Dufek, "Like there's a lot of black pepper in the dishes black pepper in certain drinks. Apple in some of the dishes apples in some of the drinks. That sort of thing."
It's fitting that they've named the night after the classic Rolling Stones record, because it sounds like they plan to play off one another's creations like Keith Richards riffing on a Charlie Watts drumbeat.
"We have talked about it for a while just me and Rebecca, but once Chad started working here again it was more realistic just because with the two of us working together it was a lot easier," Dufek said.
The group has already started teasing some of the one-time-only menu on their face book and it sounds delicious and, at $50 a ticket, totally reasonable.
With only 35-40 seats available tickets are sure to fill up quickly so I advise you get on it quickly if you want to go. You can RSVP by phone at (414) 223-9330 or email Dufek at ddufek@gmail.com.
