It's time for Dining Month, presented by Deer District and its spooky Halloween-themed alter ego, Fear District. Throughout the month of October, we'll be serving up fun and fascinating content about all things food. The signature dish, however, is our 2019 Best of Dining poll, who's winners we will dish out all month long. Get hungry, Milwaukee!
Red Light Ramen
Red Light Ramen has won over the hearts (and stomachs) of Milwaukee's ramen lovers yet again, as the East Side favorite wins this year's best ramen category – and continues to put microwave ramen to shame everywhere.
Founded as a midnight only snack for late night eaters or chefs, Red Light Ramen has now expanded into more normal hours for dinner, with more hours to slurp up these rich bowls of flavor on your way to either the East Side or Brady Street.
And even with an expanded menu over the years of other tasty snacks, including adventurous options like cured sting ray that you roast over a small fire, the mouthwatering and always fresh tonkotsu ramen – complete with tasty pork belly, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, nori and a soft boiled egg – is what brings everyone in and keeps them coming back. Plus, it goes great with its boozy slushies like their classic brandy old fashioned slushee.
Hungry Sumo in Bay View earned a strong, well-earned silver medal, while Lori's pick – Kawa – snagged the bronze with Tochi and Artisan Ramen completing the top five.
