For the sixth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com, presented by Concordia University. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as the winners of our "Best of Dining 2012."
Your votes are in, Milwaukee, and you have selected the winners of OnMilwaukee's Best Dining 2012. We're announcing the results of this readers' poll, including our editors' pick, in a series of articles that run all October long during Dining Month on OnMilwaukee.com.
Maxie's Southern Comfort, also your choice for the City of Milwaukee's best overall restaurant, has won this year's poll for best comfort food.
Maxie's beat out Comet (our editors' choice) by just 4.2 percent, making this one of the closer contests in this year's "best of" poll.
Maxie's, 6732 W. Fairview Ave., is known for its Cajun and southern favorites, won this category last year (and in 2010), too. In fact, last year, Comet and Honeypie came in second and third place, respectively, too. It seems our readers like the comfort of tradition, too.
With a menu heavy on southern favorites, barbecue and seafood, Maxie's delivers time and time again. The restaurant interior is gorgeous, too. An overall sense of slow, Louisiana comfort plus jazzy trend cover the walls, bar and seating with a combination of black, red and white. Classy small chandeliers hang over the short bar and illuminate the area with a luxurious glow.
Very comfortable, indeed.
