These days, the bar scene in the Walker's Point neighborhood is expanding exponentially, with at least a handful of new ones opening up within the last year. But, in this case, new doesn't always mean better.
OnMilwaukee.com readers voted an old stand-by, Slim McGinn's, 338 S. 1st St., as their favorite bar in Walker's Point. And what's not to love about the old Irish pub? It's literally open every day of the year and in the summer and fall, the outdoor patio is a nice, relaxing oasis along the bustling 1st Street.
Slim's doesn't disappoint with its fine variety of sandwiches, appetizers and homemade soups. Nightly specials, steaks, chops, prime rib and all-you-can-eat crab legs and barbecue ribs all make this a place to put on your "to dine at" list.
When it came time for us to vote, we chose Steny's, which tied with The Bomb Shelter (which one first place in 2009), for the first runner up slot. It was a close race this year, which really only means one thing: Walker's Point knows how to party.
