Ironically, one of my trainers at Fitness Together turned me on to the Travel Channel show "Man v. Food." I've DVRed a few episodes and found it to be highly entertaining and a bit addictive.
The host, Adam Richman, has great presence and a witty personality, not to mention a stomach that seemingly takes any and everything shoveled into it.
The premise of the show is simple. Richman samples unique food in America and then attempts to conquer iconic food challenges like 72-oz. steaks, 13-lb. pizzas and stuff like the Memphis-based Kookamonga Burger, four pounds of fresh ground-chuck, two pounds of custom made hamburger bun, one and a half pounds of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions and cheese!
Watching Richman attack his challenges is great fun, and it got me to thinking where's the big eats / culinary "challenge" in Milwaukee?
Do we have a place where "Man v. Food" could set up a quality episode?
Where are our big ass pancakes, burritos as big as your head or soup so hot that it raises your blood pressure?
Do we have such a restaurant challenge? You know, a challenge where the "winners" get a picture on a wall, a lifetime of accolades and a short term brush with massive increases in cholesterol, liver enzymes, blood lipids and general heartburn.
Honestly, I can't think of a single spot that truly promotes a "big food" challenge. Can you?
