The historic, brightly-painted Brewed Cafe, 1208 E. Brady St., will close for good on Sunday, Oct. 3. It first opened in the mid-1990s as Brewed Awakenings and 14 years ago became known simply as "Brewed."

The for almost 30 years, the cafe –with its thrift-store furniture and local art – served as the ideal spot for casual hangs, meetings, dates, study sessions and more. Brewed was also known for its hearty, homemade food and dessert as much as it was for its strong, local coffee.

"After 14 incredible years, my sister (Eva Kuether) and I will be permanently closing the doors of our beloved Brewed Cafe. As we reflect on the many happy memories and good friends that we’ve made along the way, we know that the Brady Street community has left a permanent mark on our hearts," co-owner Sheila Pufahl-Bettin told OnMilwaukee.

"The time is right for us to close this chapter of our lives to allow us to spend more time with family, tend to other priorities, and explore other pursuits. We end this unforgettable journey with grateful and happy hearts. Thank you Brewed neighbors, customers, employees and friends from the bottom of our hearts."
