The Bay View Historical Society will be hosting its annual wine and beer tasting from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Beulah Brinton House, 2590 S. Superior St. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I am a member of the Bay View Historical Society 2008 board.)

For $45 in advance or $55 at the door, guests can sample a variety of wines and beers and nibble on hors d'oeuvres donated by G. Groppi's Food Market.

To purchase tickets in advance, contact Donna Pogliano at (414) 324-5690, or just come to the Brinton House yards at 5 p.m. Saturday to frolic under the Bay View moonlight (the event is held in the house yards outside beneath lovely white tents-rain or shine.)

All proceeds benefit the The Bay View Historical Society, a non-profit organization that maintains a sense of community by conserving, celebrating and sharing Bay View's rich heritage.

Amy L. Schubert is a 15-year veteran of the hospitality industry and has worked in every aspect of bar and restaurant operations. A graduate of Marquette University (B.A.-Writing Intensive English, 1997) and UW-Milwaukee (M.A.-Rhetoric, Composition, and Professional Writing, 2001), Amy still occasionally moonlights as a guest bartender and she mixes a mean martini.

The restaurant business seems to be in Amy’s blood, and she prides herself in researching and experimenting with culinary combinations and cooking techniques in her own kitchen as well as in friends’ restaurants. Both she and her husband, Scott, are avid cooks and “wine heads,” and love to entertain friends, family and neighbors as frequently as possible.

Amy and Scott live with their boys, Alex and Nick, in Bay View, where they are all very active in the community. Amy finds great pleasure in sharing her knowledge and passions for food and writing in her contributions to OnMilwaukee.com.
