"Brown, Black & Brews: The Fifth Ingredient," the first brew fest in Wisconsin that focuses on both existing and the lack of representation of Black- and Brown-owned breweries, will debut at the Sugar Maple, 441 E. Lincoln Ave. in Bay View.
The fest will take place Saturday, Dec. 3 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $10 and benefits proceed True Skool, a Milwaukee nonprofit that empowers youth through creative arts and hip hop culture.
Guests will enjoy beers from BIPOC breweries in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin breweries and, hopefully, think beyond the traditional ingredients of beer — water, yeast, grain and hops — and consider "culture" as a fifth ingredient.
Tarik Moody, Program Director of HYFIN from Radio Milwaukee, is the organizer of the event.
Participating breweries include Illinois-based Brewer’s Kitchen, Funkytown Brewery, Azadi Brewing and Moors Brewing Company; Indiana-based 18th Street Brewery; and Milwaukee’s Soul Brew Kombucha.
The event will also present art and music from True Skool and storytelling sessions from some of the brewers.
