It’s rare to find a dining event that caters to vegan diners. But Cafe Corazon is cooking up a plant-based meet-up that not only brings folks together in community but raises money for a great cause.

The vegan meet-up for charity takes place on Thursday, June 12 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Cafe Corazon,  2394 S Kinnickinnic Ave. in Bay View. Attendees will receive a complimentary vegan appetizer and a house margarita (attendees must be 21+ to indulge)..

Proceeds from the event will support Sauce Milw., a charity that assists in feeding the hungry by delivering meals by bicycle. Founded in 2021 by former Café Corazón employee Gianni Vaccaro, the nonprofit provides the community with homemade, cholesterol-free, plant-based meals.

“We love this event idea as 15 years ago our first menu had a handful of vegan dishes.” said Corazón Co-Owner Wendy Mireles. “We’re also dedicated to giving back to our community. We’re looking forward to the conversation on the 12th and can’t wait for folks to taste or re-try our vegan dishes, all while supporting a cause dear to our hearts.”

The cost to attend the meet-up is just $10 per person and registration is available online. To encourage conversation and community, attendance will be capped at 40 attendees.

“We wanted these meetups to be smaller group events and great dialogues,” said new Café Corazón Vegan Community Ambassador Stephanie Vienonen. “I have eaten meat-free for the last 15 years, the last five as a vegan, and I look forward to hearing from others in the community about their journeys.”

Mireless emphasizes that the event (and the restaurant) is open to everyone.

“We take great pride in welcoming everyone – those who eat meat, as well as those who have chosen a vegan lifestyle at Café Corazón,” says Mireless. “We want to ensure that there is something for every palate on our menu. We hope folks get a sense of that in Bay View on the 12th.”
