After four previous illuminated installations in the Boerner Botanical Gardens – before a two-year hiatus – China Lights is back, and this year's theme is “Adventures In Lantern Wonderland.”
The China Lights Wisconsin Festival presented by TriCity National Bank returns for the first time since 2019 and takes place Sept. 16-Oct. 30. The display is open Tuesdays-Sundays, 5:30-10 p.m.
As part of the "Alice" theme, 40 giants lanterns, including the Mad Hatter, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, an Illusion Tunnel, and the Queen of Hearts, will be arrayed around a three-quarter mile walking route at the gardens.
There are also nearly a dozen interactive light displays, including a kaleidoscope, a "drumming tree" and illuminated swings.
The only returning lantern is the 200-foot dragon.
Here are seven reasons I wrote that you shouldn't miss the 2019 show and most of them still apply.
The illuminated lanterns make for a great evening under the stars, plus there's entertainment, food and more.
Tickets are available online here.
