The Estabrook Park Beer Garden Cyclocross Classic will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Cyclocross racing, which traces its origins to Europe, and has been steadily gaining popularity in the U.S. and Milwaukee.
Cyclocross racers complete multiple laps on mainly off-road 1.5- to 2-mile courses that include muddy sections, steep drop-offs, and man-made barriers requiring riders to rapidly dismount their bikes and carry them across. These, combined with the encouraged heckling of riders, blowing of horns and ringing of cowbells make Cyclocross an ideal spectator sport.
"Milwaukee’s East Side has a tradition of turning out in masses for summer cycling races like Downer Avenue and Shorewood," said Cyclohaus spokesman Matt Kirchner. "We anticipate building the same level of enthusiasm around the Estabrook Beer Garden race this fall."
Hampshire Cycle Club and Cyclohaus are both local sponsors of the event. Cyclohaus' sponsorship of this race includes a combination of cash and merchandise that create the richest purse of the 2015 Wisconsin Cyclocross season and will bring out top tier riders for the event. In addition, Cyclohaus has made arrangements for professional cycling announcer Todd Busteed to call the races which begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4:15 p.m.
OnMilwaukee is a media partner and sponsor of the event and the Estabrook Park Beer Garden also is a key sponsor as spectators are encouraged to enjoy a cold beverage while watching the race, which passes by the Beer Garden.
"Between the Beer Garden, the venue and the attractive prizes provided by Cyclohaus this promises to be the premier cyclocross event of the season," said Jerry Pearce, Race Director and proprietor of Rainbow Jersey Bicycles in Shorewood.
The races starts and finishes at the Estabrook Park Beer Garden, 4600 N. Estabrook Dr.
A life-long and passionate community leader and Milwaukeean, Jeff Sherman is a co-founder of OnMilwaukee.
He grew up in Wauwatosa and graduated from Marquette University, as a Warrior. He holds an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, and is the founding president of Young Professionals of Milwaukee (YPM)/Fuel Milwaukee.
Early in his career, Sherman was one of youngest members of the Greater Milwaukee Committee, and currently is involved in numerous civic and community groups - including board positions at The Wisconsin Center District, Wisconsin Club and Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. He's honored to have been named to The Business Journal's "30 under 30" and Milwaukee Magazine's "35 under 35" lists.
