The Summer Olympics begin this week – and if all that running, jumping and athletic excellence makes you want to get off the couch and work up a sweat of your own, sign up for Deer District's first annual 5k.
Hosted by Deer District BID 53, the Downtown hub's inaugural 5k will get sprinting on Saturday, Sept. 7. The 5k will take off from the start line at 7:45 a.m., and while the official route has yet to be posted, the run will end in the Plaza at Fiserv Forum – in the shadow of the house that Olympian and this year's Greek flag bearer Giannis Antetokounmpo built.
Those partaking in the brand new 5k will all receive a T-shirt and medal, no matter whether your time is less Sha'Carri and more sloth. And to help refuel and recover after the run, food and beverage will be available for purchase in the plaza area.
To register for the run, click here – though you'll want to make like Noah Lyles and act fast, as the price goes up the closer the 5k gets. Now through Aug. 2, registration costs just $25; for the full escalating price schedule, visit Deer District's website.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
