For over a decade, Kathy Burghardt has been at the helm of Delish Delivered, a meal delivery service that eliminates the cooking, cleaning and effort of everyday meals.

"I like to cook,” says Burghart. "But figuring out what to make, buying the ingredients and cleaning it all up takes time. Taking advantage of meal delivery means you can do things that make you happier ... spend time with your family, get more organized, spend more time at work. It’s also a great option for someone who’s just had a baby or who is recuperating from an illness."

New shared kitchen

The business began where many do, in a licensed, certified kitchen that Burghardt rented out to make the locally-made meals.  But now, over a decade later, she’s upgraded her business into a brand new commercial kitchen.

The new 3,000 square foot licensed kitchen space, located at 6340 W. Industrial Dr. in Mequon, not only allows Delish Delivered to create its rotating selection of 80 different recipes for delivery; it also provides ample space to share with other food businesses that would benefit from a commercial kitchen.

Among the equipment available for rental are six ovens, a flash chiller, 12 burners, a grill, a 40-gallon tilting skillet and 10 gallon tilting kettle. Burghardt says there’s also prep space, a walk-in cooler and a freezer.

“We use the kitchen on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until the early afternoon,” she says. “And we currently have about nine other businesses renting from us, but there is still room for a few more entrepreneurs who need a commercial kitchen space to get their business started or take it to the next level.”

Interested businesses can get more information and inquire about the new commercial kitchen space online at delishkitchen.net.

A new world for meal delivery

Burghart says that, when they first began, she had no idea that Delish Delivered would meet with such success. But she says that word of mouth has been one of the best tools to work in her favor.

“Things have also really changed over the years, especially since the pandemic,” she says. “People are much more inclined to purchase food that’s convenient for themselves and their families.”

Even after years of growth, Burghardt says numerous things have kept the business running smoothly. Among them is the proprietary software that keeps everything organized and easy to track.

In fact, that software has also allowed Burghardt to expand the business in other directions, including offering Delish Delivered as an option for someone who’d like to start a meal delivery business in another city.

“There’s still work involved,” she says. “But having the right tools makes it so much easier. And I’m excited to assist someone else in making their business come to fruition.”
