When two dogs love each other very much, they now have the option of getting hitched, thanks to the "Puppy Love Package" that’s available at The Pfister Hotel as part of the Extreme Valentine's Packages.
It’s true: pet owners can witness their beloved pooches bark their "I dos" while wearing a tiny tuxedo and a mini white wedding dress.
The "Puppy Love Package," which was devised for Valentine’s Day but will remain available after the lovers’ holiday as well, includes rental of the dapper dog garb, photos by Front Room Photography, a ceremony by a human officiant, a reception for 10 humans and their pets, a two-night stay at the hotel and a dinner for the dogs and humans crafted by Pfister chef Brian Frakes featuring ribeye steaks and chicken.
The cost of a canine ceremony at the Pfister starts around $3,500.
Cassy Scrima, director of marketing for Marcus Hotels & Resorts, did a trial run with her dogs, Roxie and Hachi, last month. The wedding party – which included dogs Rhys, Edge, Dew, Eve and Gemma – featured the groomsmen wearing plaid bow ties and the bridesmaids adorned with flower wreaths.
"It went really well," says Scrima. "They were very obedient."
A second dog wedding between Rhys and Daisy later took place, and their ceremony included grooms and bridesmaids Roxie, Remi, Edge and Hachi.
"This ceremony was a little more chaotic, but it was a success, too," says Scrima.
The ceremonies are held on the marble staircase in the lobby of The Pfister, which provides a lovely setting – as well as easy clean up in case of an accident.
"Luckily, we did not have a single accident at either wedding," says Scrima.
After the ceremony, the married mutts make it "official" by pressing their paws into an ink pad and leaving their print on a marriage certificate.
Scrima says the event is designed for people who are "totally into their dogs" and that it’s all in good fun.
And yes, same-sex dog weddings are welcome.
