Join us on Saturday, July 22 for some lakeside munchies at the second annual OnMilwaukee Food Truck Fest. Choose from a menu of 20 trucks and enjoy the live music, games and entertainment. It's the biggest gathering of the best food on four wheels.

At OnMilwaukee, we believe in lifting up all voices and using our platform to support others’ dreams.  And that's what we hope to do for Dominic the Food Reviewer. When I first met Dominic almost two years ago, I was impressed by his passion, his curiosity and his interest in improving his writing. Over time,  I’ve not only enjoyed getting to know him better, but he has taught me as much as I have him. My hope is that you’ll not only enjoy reading Dominic’s reviews, but also glean understanding and joy from seeing the world of food through his eyes. -- Lori Fredrich, Dining Editor

This weekend I’m going to bes sharing my top 5 favorite breakfast spots to go to in Milwaukee county.

Here are my picks, in no particular order.

1. Mimosa

All the food at Mimosa is super fresh and savory. The french churro which is coated in cornflakes and cinnamon sugar, stuffed with cream cheese filling, topped with fresh berries and finished with housemate strawberry cream, is like a work of art on a plate. When the ginormous plate of the french churro came to the table I couldn’t believe my eyes. I liked that their food was made with natural ingredients and not processed at all.

2. Press Waffles

Press has the most scrumptious waffles I have ever had. Two must try waffles are the honey goat cheese with candied bacon and the second is the strawberries with cream. They make all their waffles with brioche dough. The brioche dough gives the waffle a sweet flavor. The staff is incredibly kind and genuine. I always order extra waffles to take home because they are so yummy.

3. Allie Boy’s Bagelry

Allie Boy’s has a menu filled with classic and modern breakfast items.  The egg and cheese bagel sandwich with a choice of pork roll, bacon or breakfast sausage with a herbed omelette, American cheese, aged cheddar, salt, pepper and ketchup was delicious. The sandwich had just the right amount of toppings on it and I especially enjoyed the egg and cheese. The bagel sandwiches are the perfect breakfast when you’re on the go.

4. Engine Company No. 3

Engine Company No. 3 is a fire station themed restaurant. The fire fighting memorabilia on the walls make for a super cool atmosphere. For breakfast I had an omelette with red potatoes and two pieces of toast. The omelette was very well portioned out and was appetizing especially with the red skin potatoes. Everyone I went with really enjoyed their meal and the experience.

5. Mad Rooster Cafe

With a fun barn theme, Mad Rooster makes my top five breakfast spots in Milwaukee county. Their huevos rancheros, which is a dish with any style of eggs you want on it, is topped with corn tortillas, housemade salsa, ranchera cilantro, and baby red potatoes. The meal was absolutely wonderful. Their salsa had a nice juicy flavor with an over easy egg on top. They have a very large menu, so anyone can find an item that you might be craving.
