A day after OnMilwaukee’s third annual Donut and Coffee Fest – while Milwaukee has donuts on the brain – Vennture Brew Co. has announced the details its fifth annual collaboration with Cranky Al’s.
The release of Doughnut Don imperial doughnut coffee stout, is slated for Saturday, April 13, at noon at Vennture Brew Co.'s original location, 5519 W. North Ave.
There are hundreds of Cranky Al’s crullers in the mash of this 11 percent ABV stout that has flavors of vanilla, chocolate and coffee (thanks to 16 pounds of Colombian coffee per barrel).
This year there are four variants of this decadent brew.
The base stout and Double Doughnut Don with twice the vanilla, and the twice the coffee, are available in a limited runs of 300 12-ounce sleek cans each.
Here are the variants, with descriptions provided by Vennture:
Maple Doughnut Don: Last year we skipped over our regular Maple for a Blueberry Maple Barrel Aged number, but this year, we're slappin a flapjack on the table and bringing back the Maple. In 12-ounce sleek cans.
Barrel Aged Doughnut Don: 13% Imperial Pastry Stout, aged for 1 year in J. Henry Bourbon barrels. All of the beauty of the base beer aged for a bit in oak to pull out the remaining bits of booze from the wood along with rounding out the flavor and turning it into a complex lil number. In 500ml bottles.
Barrel Aged Doughnut Don with Coconut and Cacao: 13% Imperial Pastry Stout, aged for 1 year in J. Henry Bourbon barrels. In 500ml bottles.
Jeelly Filled: Pastry Sour with Raspberry Puree and Lemonade. This beautiful number has tons and tons and tons of fruit smushed into lovely beer liquid to create a very unique drinking experience. Part smoothie, part beer, all love. Tart and fruity, this is the best way to eat beer. In 16-ounce cans.
There will be three food trucks on hand: MKE Bento, Yadeems on the Go and 18 Acres, and before the beer release, Vennture will feature a caramel mocha with coconut cold foam, as well as the Doughnut Don coffee on drip and in bags of beans to go.
The packaged and tap beer will be exhausted pretty quickly, so if you hesitate, you will miss out.
The beers will be on tap on Sunday, April 14 at Vennture's new Brookfield location from noon until 7 p.m.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
