The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) reminds City residents that the year-round garbage cart set-out program is in effect.

This means that residents with curb pick-up must take their garbage cart to the curb on their designated collection day. Ideally, carts should be placed between the sidewalk and the curb. When snow mounds prevent this, carts can be placed on the sidewalk next to the driveway approach. Or, if the cart does not obstruct motor vehicle traffic lanes, place it in the street at the curb near the driveway. Carts must be returned to the storage location by 10 p.m. on the day garbage is collected.

Carts serviced in alleys should be placed at the apron of the alley. Residents should be sure to shovel a path to the cart so DPW crews can access it to collect garbage.

Most snowfalls should not impact garbage collection days. Residents should continue to place their carts out on their scheduled collection days. Note that garbage collection will be pushed back one day after Monday, Jan. 19, for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.

For information on your collection day(s) and to sign up to receive an alert from DPW when inclement weather impacts garbage collection, go to city.milwaukee.gov/mpw or call (414) 286-CITY (-2489).
