A few years ago, Milwaukee musician and filmmaker Wes Tank found a copy of the beloved Dr. Seuss book "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" on his way into a basement show in Minneapolis where he was set to perform and he was instantly inspired by it.

"I happened to have an Mp3 of Dr. Dre's 'Deep Cover' instrumental on my phone. I made an impromptu decision to rap the book over the track. The crowd went wild for it," says Tank. "After that I tried other Seuss books over other Dre beats at live shows. People always really seemed to get excited and inspired by this part of the show. Dr. Seuss' books and Dr. Dre's beats went so well together that I felt I had unlocked an achievement that had been waiting to be found."

Tank, who also operates a media production business Tank Think, wanted to record the songs for years but didn't have the time or headspace to do it, until recently.

"Since the safer-at-home order, my active productions have slowed and I've had more time to read, reflect and spend time with my artistic practice," says Tank. "I realized that I suddenly had time to make the Dr. Seuss videos, and that with kids and parents stuck at home, they could be useful as teaching tools or just positive content to pass the time."

Tank currently has three Seuss/Dre mashups – featuring the books "Fox in Sox," "Green Eggs and Ham" and "The Lorax" – on YouTube. The entertaining videos already have 75,000 views and counting.

Tank says he plans to add more in the future. 

"I've had a couple requests for books that I haven't yet done that I may do after the initial set is done. I'm also looking at other authors, and developing other ideas for new original content," says Tank.

"I hope parents and teachers can use them as teaching tools to make reading fun for children. I hope it makes kids and adults excited to pick up a book and read. At the very least I hope it helps people to smile and keep a positive mindset during a difficult and uncertain time," says Tank.
