I was sad to see the East Library go.

Sure, it was outdated, maybe even a bit dank, but it was my childhood library. The one where my dad read to me "Harold and The Purple Crayon" and I later discovered Judy Blume. I studied there often while in college, took my sons there to get a library card as soon as they could write their names and spent 10 summers in the Super Readers' Club.

However, when I saw the sneak peek of the new library in Bobby Tanzilo's article earlier this month, I had to admit the new digs looked really cool. Read Matt Mueller's interview with the band Mad RED Kat, which will perform at the event, here.

After 18 months of construction, the new East Branch Library, 2320 N. Cramer St., celebrates a grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 22 from noon to 5 p.m. There will be live entertainment, crafts, tours and a ribbon cutting at noon.

So for now, I’ll put my nostalgia in the drop box and check it out. (Sorry, geeky library humor.)
