The Milwaukee Public Library Board of Trustees Building and Development Committee selected HSI Development to redevelop the East Branch of the Milwaukee Public Library at its meeting Wednesday evening.

HSI's proposal features a 16,000-square foot library on the first floor of a mixed use development with 92 market-rate apartments on the upper three floors. Tenants will have access to a roof-top garden. The library will include 40 parking spaces for customers with resident parking located underground. The total cost for the project is $ 14,757,836.

In July of this year, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett challenged the development community to help the City reinvent Milwaukee Public Library's East branch as part of the East Side community. This unique property has attracted the attention of developers over the last 10 years.

"This is an exciting opportunity for East Side residents and the Business Community," said Mayor Tom Barrett. "This new development will not only bring an exciting new development to the community, it will rebuild the library for the next 50 years."
