Even though the store has two more years on its lease at 2330 N. Farwell Ave., Blockbuster will close the location at the end of the year. All merchandise is currently priced at below retail, with some 50 percent off.

In September, Blockbuster Inc. announced that it may close as many as 960 stores by the end of next year. The company is slowly moving more to business online and fewer and smaller retail stores. By the middle of next year, Blockbuster hopes to have 10,000 rental kiosks scattered around the country.

"I'm sad, they were a great tenant -- our first tenant," John Sidoff, the owner of Century Center that houses the Blockbuster store, told OnMilwaukee.com.

"They were good for the neighborhood and the other businesses. I'm sorry to see them go."

Sidoff will hire a real estate company to actively market the space next month.
