{image1}Jeff Edenhofer bicycles 3,000 miles a year. His wife, Linda Rosland, enjoys a much shorter ride, and one that features a custard stop. This summer, after years of fantasizing, the Riverwest couple will combine their cycling styles when they launch Eden Excursions, a brand new business offering Wisconsin bike tours.
"Jeff and I have talked on and off for years about doing something like bike tours and this year, the time just seemed right," says Rosland.
Starting this June, Eden Excursions will offer three bike tours: a Kettle Moraine ride, a tour from Kohler to Cedarburg to Sheboygan and a Door County trek. All of the tours are three days long, average around 50-60 miles per day and cost between $489-$599.
All accommodations are three-star or above hotels. Snacks and beverages are provided at rest stops and sag wagons travel with the group in case of a mechanical breakdown or a physical injury.
The Kettle Moraine tour is scheduled for June 10-13; the Kohler tour for July 29-August 1; and the Door County ride from September 19-22.
Edenhofer, who has been involved with the bicycle industry for over 23 years, will adjust the routes based on the goals and skill levels of each group. Group sizes are limited to a maximum of 16 riders.
"This gives us the chance to offer a more personalized service than the larger rides," says Rosland, a telecom specialist who grew up in Racine and Sheboygan but has lived in Riverwest for the past 15 years.
Rosland says that each ride's end-of-day destination is somewhere with cultural and entertainment options. For instance, on two of the tours the group overnights in Sheboygan near shops, restaurants and taverns and within walking distance of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
"If things work out, we hope to expand the rides to include other areas of Wisconsin, and eventually other areas of the United States," says Rosland.
