The Packers held their first meeting of training camp this morning.
Brett Favre wasn't there.
The first practice is slated for Monday morning.
Brett Favre won't be there.
The 38-year-old quarterback told Sports Illustrated's Peter King that he has scrapped plans to appear in Green Bay until his situation is resolved.
"I had planned on reporting for the start of Packers training camp Sunday, but Ted Thompson asked if I would give him a couple of days to try to get the situation resolved," Favre told Sports Illustrated. "I agreed to do that. I don't want to be a distraction to the Packers, and I hope in the next few days we can come to an agreement that would allow me to continue playing football.''
Although National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell has talked to Favre and appears to be interested in acting as a mediator, a resolution to the situation does not seem imminent or even likely.
The Packers are believed to be talking to other teams about a potential trade, but sources in New York say that a deal with the Jets seems "improbable." The Packers are unlikely to release Favre, who would then be eligible to sign with another team such as division rival Minnesota.
The NFL is investigating tampering charges against the Vikings and Favre told King he spoke to Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and head coach Brad Childress, but denied that tampering took place.
"I have no qualms about admitting I talked to them,'' Favre told King "Talking with Milt (Ahlerich, the NFL's vice president of security) he said, 'Brett, did they entice you?' I said no, 'I don't need to be enticed anywhere.' They absolutely did not entice me to come to Minnesota.''
In a meeting with reporters Saturday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy referred to "the Brett Favre situation" as "disappointing" and reiterated his stance about the quarterback situation.
"Aaron Rodgers is the starting quarterback of the Green Bay Packers," McCarthy said. "That has been stated over and over again."
