The second Buffalo Boss restaurant celebrated a grand opening and ribbon cutting today at its new digs, 540 N. 27th St., in the Near West Side corridor.
It was a well-attended and jovial event with NWSP Executive Director Lindsey St. Arnold Bell, Ald. Bob Bauman and Buffalo Boss owner Taj Pearsall in attendance among many other friends, neighbors and supporters. Plus, Pete’s Pops was on-site doling out complimentary frozen treats.
Milwaukee’s first Buffalo Boss location opened four years ago in the Sherman Phoenix Marketplace.
“We’re excited to be here,” says Pearsall. “This is a new neighborhood for us and we’re ready to be one of the shining stars of this great corridor.”
New York-style wings – available regular or meatless – are at the heart of the Boss’ menu. Patrons choose the order size, type of wing (bone-in or boneless; drummies or flat), level of crispiness and the type of sauces from a 12-sauce list. All of the ordering is done at kiosks inside the restaurant.
During our visit, we ordered the “full sauce” option – it can also be served on the side or lightly sauced – and it was indeed that, requiring at least a dozen napkins to consume but well worth the “mess.”
Pearsall is particularly passionate about his blue cheese dressing, which is available as a dipping sauce and in a 16-ounce to-go jar.
“If you or anyone in your life says they don’t like blue cheese, I challenge them to try our blue cheese,” says Pearsall. “If you still don’t like it, I will pay for your meal.” (You heard it here, folks!)
The menu also features a chicken sandwich, tenders, bowls and wraps, along with shrimp items that are new to this location. Down the road Pearsall says he will add a Belgian waffle to accompany the chicken tenders.
“We have the same consistency and quality as our Sherman Phoenix location, but we’ve added a few more items here,” says Pearsall.
Fries, cheese fries, sweet potato fries and yellow rice are available as sides.
The Buffalo Boss chain started in Brooklyn in 2010 by Jamar White, the cousin of hip hop artist Jay-Z. Pearsall hopes this is the beginning of numerous Boss locations in Milwaukee.
“Down the road, my plan is to further the franchise and give this opportunity to others,” he says.

Buffalo Boss is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
