It's been a bad summer for movies – both in Hollywood, with more flops than real hits, and now in Milwaukee, as Point Fish Fry & A Flick, an outdoor movie series and community dinner hosted on the Lakefront by Discovery World, announced that it will not return for 2017.
In an announcement made on Facebook and its official website, Point Fish Fry & A Flick added that "there are no definite plans in place for the future of the event" before thanking the city for supporting its seven-season run.
Over its seven years screening at Discovery World, Point Fish Fry & A Flick gathered the city together for showings of hits new ("Deadpool," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens") and old ("Wayne's World," the original "Ghostbusters") while also serving up a fish fry from Bartolotta's and a free Stevens Point Brewery beer and tasting before each film.
It was gearing up to be a hectic late summer for Discovery World, with its major expansion and renovation project expected to begin in August – around the same time Fish Fry & A Flick typically hosted at least a few screenings at the Lakefront locale.
We don't know if the impending construction is related to the cancellation, but we do know that, for those looking for a new outdoor movie screening to enjoy, Chill on the Hill will show two movies – "La La Land" and "The LEGO Batman Movie" – on July 20 and Aug. 5, respectively. And for those willing to take a little drive, there's always the Highway 18 Outdoor Theatre in Jefferson.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
