The Milwaukee Brewers today placed LHP Chris Capuano on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9, with a strained left groin.  Capuano (13 games, 5-5, 4.35) was scratched from his start last night at Detroit due to the injury.  In a corresponding move, the Brewers have purchased the contract of RHP Yovani Gallardo from Triple-A Nashville.  He will wear uniform number 49 as he makes his Major League debut.

Gallardo, 21, went 8-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 13 starts at Nashville this season (77.2ip, 53h, 26r, 25er, 28bb, 110k, 4hr).  He led Minor League Baseball with 110 strikeouts in only 77.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .189 batting average.  Gallardo led the Pacific Coast League in wins and ranked second in the league in ERA, trailing only teammate Chris Oxspring (2.50).  He has recorded five games this season with 10 or more strikeouts, tying his season high with 12 in his last start on Tuesday at Memphis despite taking the loss (6ip, 4h, 2r, 2er, 1bb, 12k, 1hr, 1hbp, 1wp).

Gallardo entered the 2007 season as the top-ranked prospect in the Brewers organization according to Baseball America.  He was named 2006 Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going a combined 11-5 with a 1.86 ERA in 26 starts between Class-A Brevard County and Double-A Huntsville last season.  He led all of Minor League Baseball with 188 strikeouts last season, the most ever by a Brewers farmhand.

Gallardo was selected by the Brewers in the second round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of Trimble Tech High School in Texas.  He was signed by Jim Stevenson.
