Last summer, Peter Gammons was inducted into the writers’ wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
This summer, he will fulfill another life-long dream.
Gammons, a longtime baseball writer, ESPN analyst and amateur musician, will release his first album “Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old,” on July 4. The album, on Rounder Records, features Gammons signing and playing guitar on original songs as well as covers of The Clash’s “Death or Glory,” and Warren Zevon’s “Model Citizen.”
Gammons, who hosts the annual “Hot Stove, Cool Music” benefit concert each year with Boston Herald reporter Jeff Horrigan, is joined on the project by George Thorogood and Boston music icons like Juliana Hatfield and Kay Hanley as well as Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein (also a guitarist) and players like Bronson Arroyo, Trot Nixon, Tim Wakefield and Jonathon Papelbon.
Proceeds from the album will benefit the Foundation To Be Named Later, which raises funds for disadvantaged youth.
