It’s National Burger month, and that means it’s time for the Georgie Porgie’s annual burger contest.

Do you have a red hot idea for a burger you’d love to see on the menu? If so, you’re in luck. Entries are being accepted on the Georgie Porgie's web site through Wednesday, May 17.

Entries will be considered first by the Georgie Porgie’s team, who will select five favorites from those submitted. The final five will be presented to a panel of local celebrity judges during a special event on Thursday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Oak Creek restaurant 9555 S. Howell Ave.

The 2017 judging panel includes Fox 6 Real Milwaukee’s Brian Kramp, WISN 12 Meteorologist
Lindsey Slater, OnMilwaukee’s own senior dining writer Lori Fredrich and Ed Sedar and Marcus Hanel of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The burger contest judging will coincide with the grand opening of Georgie Porgie’s new addition, George’s Garage. The event is open to the public and all in attendance will have the opportunity to sample the top five burgers.

The burger selected as the favorite by the judges will be featured as the restaurant’s burger of the during the month of June and will be featured on the menus at both the Oak Creek and Mount Pleasant locations. The winning entry will also receive a free burger of the month for an entire year along with a party for 20. All other finalists will receive a $25 Georgie Porgie’s gift card.

"This contest is a great way for members of our community to share their delicious burger ideas with us" said co-owner Pete Liapis.

"Our staff always loves creating ideas, but it’s even more fun to have the ideas come from our customers and members of the community. And the prize attached to it just adds some extra fun to an already cool opportunity," added co-owner Lou Liapis.

The 2016 Georgie Porgie's burger winner was the Taste O’ Wisconsin, a ¼-pound sirloin patty topped with caramelized onions, Door County tart cherries and Wisconsin blue cheese served on a locally-baked pretzel bun (pictured above).
