The Bucks may be scuffling right now, but they received a bit of pleasant news Thursday night as Giannis was named as an All-Star Game starter for his fifth straight season.
The two-time defending Most Valuable Player is currently seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 28.0 points per game, as well as seventh in rebounds, averaging 11.4 a game.
Five straight All-Star selections is certainly an impressive achievement – though this year's poll, however, broke Giannis's two-year streak of ranking as the top Eastern Conference voter-getter and therefore serving as a team captain. Instead, Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets scored the best voting performance in the conference, earning the most fan nods in the East this season and claiming the role of All-Star captain. LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will serve as the other All-Star captain yet again.
No other Bucks – most notably Khris Middleton – earned an All-Star spot thus far. The league's head coaches, however, will select the game's reserves on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
As for the game itself, the All-Star Game in Atlanta is expected to take place on Sunday, March 7. So stay tuned for that – and, most importantly, stay tuned for the Bucks hopefully breaking out of their five-game skid soon.
