Good City Brewing celebrates its sixth anniversary this month with a series of events and program launches.
The brewery, which got its start on the East Side and has since expanded to the The Deer District and Wauwatosa will open its new Mequon Public Market taproom with a grand opening June 9-12.
Check out the newly renovated former Anodyne Coffee space at the front of the market, with a great patio and a sandwich menu from Executive Chef Guy Davies.
During the event, there will be stein specials, a meet the brewer event and more.
The brewery will also unveil a new craft cocktail program at the grand opening and the program will spread to all Good City locations by July.
“Our love for beer is why we started Good City and will always drive what we do,” says co-founder Dan Katt. “At the same time, we have grown to appreciate the craft distillery movement and feel that we can further enhance our taprooms by creating new offerings that feature craft spirits.
“We are excited to add a curated craft cocktail menu that complements our beer and enhances the overall customer experience.”
The brewery will partner with Michigan’s Journeyman Distillery for the program, says Katt.
“I personally have been a big fan of Journeyman for years. My wife is from West Michigan so we’ve spent some time at the distillery – their spirits are top notch, and it’s only about a two-hour drive, so we are thrilled to showcase another great producer in our region.
“What I am most excited about is what we will be able to do in terms of advancing our barrel aging program using barrel stock from Journeyman. Craft beer and craft bourbon is about as good as it gets.”
On June 18, the Tosa location, which opened last year, will host Good City’s day-long anniversary bash with live music, local vendors, VIP packages and the release of a special anniversary West Coast DIPA.
“We wanted to throw a big bash last year to commemorate our 5 year anniversary,” says co-founder Dan Katt. “Unfortunately, like many things, COVID derailed those plans. We’re excited to make up for lost time!”
Finally, on June 25, Good City will host a volunteer day at a Habitat for Humanity build site as part of its 1% For Our Home initiative, which supports affordable housing in the area.
Last year, Good City donated $40,000 and the brewery staff regularly volunteers with Habitat. This time, they’re inviting members of the public to join in and lend a hand. Details are here.
“Seek the Good has been core to who we are as a company since the day we opened 6 years ago,” says co-founder David Dupee.
“We certainly know how to throw a good party, but we thought it important amidst all the festivities to be intentional about serving in the community.”
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
