After losing a beloved uncle and two friends to suicide, former local radio personality Andy “Riggs” Riggle decided to do something to improve mental health care options in Wisconsin.

In 2022, Riggle started “HeartHead,” a non-profit organization committed to the belief that mental health is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and should be available to all Wisconsinites.

The organization raises funds to help people pay for therapy and mental health care.

“Our mission is to break down barriers to access mental health care and therapy by providing financial support to those in need, irrespective of income or insurance coverage,” says Riggle, who was a longtime radio DJ in Milwaukee who is currently working at 93Q Houston.

HeartHead will host a fundraiser “HeartHead Self-Care Soiree” on Sat., Feb. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Broken Bat Brewing, 135 E. Pittsburgh Ave. Tickets are $50.

“Aside from the fact that you will help someone break through the all-too-common financial barrier keeping them from getting the mental health care they deserve, Broken Bat has amazing beer,” says Riggle.

Tall Guy and a Grill will provide food and Broken Bat will serve up beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. A raffle and silent auction will also take place. Prizes include a Bobby Portis autographed jersey; tickets to the Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers; massages; spa treatments; float sessions; local hotel stay-cations and other Valentine’s Day-themed goodies.

“Our vision is a society where mental health care is universally accessible and stigma-free,” says Riggle. “Plus, it’s February in Wisconsin. There’s no Green Bay football that day. It’s cold. Come warm your soul."
