There will be a local twist to the new "Cars 2" movie that opens this summer as it feature Hobbscap, a Jaguar E-type car character based on David Hobbs, majority owner of David Hobbs Honda in Glendale. Hobbs is a former auto racer and F1 color commentator on Speed TV.
In the sequel that opens June 24, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and the tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) go overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world's fastest car. Along with Brent Mustangberger and Darrell Cartrip, David Hobbs’ character Hobbscap will provide color commentary for the World Grand Prix.
Via a news release, Hobbs said, "When I heard last June that Pixar Studios had been looking for me at the Canadian Gran Prix I was curious, to say the least. When they asked me to appear in the upcoming 'Cars 2' movie, I was stunned.
"For me it is such an honor to be asked to appear in a film with actors such as Michael Caine, Owen Wilson and Vanessa Redgrave, not to mention racing greats like Darrell Waltrip. The story, the animation and the film is going to be loved by all ages that see it and I am proud to be just a very small but fun part of it."
I saw the first "Cars" movie and really enjoyed it. Add this local flavor, a new story and similar comedy, and "Cars 2" should be equally entertaining.
