The Home Market, a unique home furnishings store, is set to open in late July in the Third Ward.

The Home Market, located on the first floor of 222 E. Erie St., will be selling furnishing pieces to fit any home decorating need.

“We’ll be selling custom slip covered furniture, apothecary candles, vintage one-of-a-kind items, bedding, mirrors, tons of the stuff for the home,” says Kate Barrette, owner and designer. She says that there are items for anyone’s budget.

“There’s cool Persian glass for $4, bedding from $30 up to $400,” Barrette says. “There’s a wide range. You can pick up a candle for $10 of an entire living room set for $8,000.”

Barrette says she plans for the store to open up for business July 28, the last night of July’s Gallery Night. She’s really excited for the opening, since she designed the entire store herself.

“I’m so excited being in the Historic Third Ward and being back in the Midwest,” she says. “It’s a cool area. Milwaukee has so much to offer, so many great things. The Historic Third Ward perfect place for my store.”

The Home Market’s hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. The store’s Web site is thehomemarket.net.

The 222 E. Erie St. Building has three other new tenants to entice Third Ward visitors.

Already in business, Vital Fitness & Physical Therapy already opened its doors mid-April on the first and lower levels of the building. The third location for this gym features personal training, yoga, pilates, group exercising and more. Vital Fitness’ Web site is vitafitness.net.

Juju Gifts, Accessories and Décor, also located on the first floor, will be home to jewelry, purses and small gifts. To read more about Juju Gifts, go here: onmilwaukee.com/market/articles/juju.html. The store’s Web site is jujugifts.com.

In August, carbon and alloy steel provider Walker Forge will take over office space on the third floor.
Heather Leszczewicz Special to OnMilwaukee.com

Originally from Des Plaines, Ill., Heather moved to Milwaukee to earn a B.A. in journalism from Marquette University. With a tongue-twisting last name like Leszczewicz, it's best to go into a career where people don't need to say your name often.

However, she's still sticking to some of her Illinoisan ways (she won't reform when it comes to things like pop, water fountain or ATM), though she's grown to enjoy her time in the Brew City.

Although her journalism career is still budding, Heather has had the chance for some once-in-a-lifetime interviews with celebrities like actor Vince Vaughn and actress Charlize Theron, director Cameron Crowe and singers Ben Kweller and Isaac Hanson of '90s brother boy band Hanson.

Heather's a self-proclaimed workaholic but loves her entertainment. She's a real television and movie fanatic, book nerd, music junkie, coffee addict and pop culture aficionado.
