Steve "The Homer" True, a well-known Milwaukee sports talk show host and commentator, was injured in an automobile crash Wednesday morning.
"Earlier today, ESPN Wisconsin's Steve ‘The Homer’ True was injured in a traffic accident on Milwaukee's northwest side," Craig Karmazin, president and CEO of Good Karma Broadcasting, posted on Facebook.
True anchors "Homer and Thunder" with co-host Mitch Nelles in the afternoon drive time 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays on WAUK-AM 540 ESPN in Milwaukee and WTLX-FM 100.5 ESPN in Madison.
"I spoke with Homer's wife, Nancy, tonight. She said Homer is doing pretty well and that doctors want to monitor his condition overnight. On behalf of the True family and all of us at ESPN Wisconsin, I'd like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers," Karmazin said.
WISN-TV’s Ch. 12 Nick Bohr reported on Wednesday evening newscasts that True was struck by a suspected drunken driver near Fond du Lac and Hampton avenues. Shattered glass and debris covered the scene.

In sports and media circles, True is well regarded. His sometimes upfront self, "living the dream," on the air is different than the sincere man his friends, family and co-workers find away from the microphone.
"I could not ask for a better mentor, teammate and friend than (True)," Tweeted Jason Wilde, ESPN Wisconsin’s senior NFL writer. "I owe so much to him and am blessed to call him my friend."
True is also the radio play-by-play announcer for the Marquette men’s basketball team.
"Homer is one of my all-time favorite people in the world and I sincerely mean that," Marquette men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family."
Gov. Scott Walker also shared his support on Twitter for True and his family.
"Prayers for Steve 'The Homer' True. He is a friend, a neighbor and a genuinely great guy," Walker posted.
Before joining the staff at ESPN 540, True covered sports and news for WISN-TV Ch. 12. Besides the work in radio at WISN-AM 1130 and his morning news anchoring at the TV station, many still recall his "Pack Attack" show, one of the many Packers-based TV shows that came on to capture the renewed interest in the team when Reggie White and Brett Favre were on the field of play.
