Beer Brulee is back as Indeed Brewing Company hosts its annual The Lowdown street festival on Saturday, Oct. 2 outside its Walker’s Point brewery and taproom, 530 S. 2nd St.
In addition to live music, live art, food vendors and a range of beers on offer, the brewery is bringing back the Beer Brulee experience.
Yes, you too can have a red hot poker rammed into your beer for 10 seconds! Why? The intense heat caramelizes the malt and creates a creamy mouthfeel.
“The result is a transformed beverage, both visually and chemically.,” according to the Indeed blog. “A thick, frothy head forms while the liquid bubbles and the malt caramelizes. Slightly sweeter and most certainly warmer, Beer Brûlées have a creamier mouthfeel and the power to thaw you out.
“Like magic, but really it’s science. The flavor change that occurs in a Beer Brûlée is thanks to the Maillard reaction – think of that distinctive taste that comes from browning a food, like a roasted marshmallow or seared steak. The compounds formed during this chemical reaction are what make bread crust taste toasty and coffee dark and roasty.”

The festival will include food from Twisted Plants, Arts & Large Cafe and others, as well as a live art creation by Jeff Redmon.
Music starts at noon and ends at 10, with The Boogie Bang, Dropbear Collective, Chicken Wire Empire, Browns Crew and You Win !!!
In addition, Indeed will have two special beers brewed especially for The Lowdown: Honey Nut Cream Ale and Smoked Vienna Lager. You’ll also be able to get Loretta’s Dark Lager, Sun Kids IPA, Pistachio Cream Ale, Flavorwave IPA, Hello, Milwaukee American Lager and others.

“We’re so excited to throw The Lowdown for a third year in a row. It’s our chance for us to share new beers and enjoy local food and artists with our community,” says Indeed’s Milwaukee Sales and Market Manager Jeff Gray.
“Last year we hosted a ‘low-key’ version, and this year we will still be taking necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.”
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
