Kourtney Stevens says her new vintage jeans shop, called Jeanerations, allows shoppers to stay focused on pants buying and not get distracted by other fashion elements.
"The concept of Jeanerations is geared towards a straight-forward shopping experience. I always compare it to going to the grocery store to get milk and walking out with 10 other items. We're bombarded with buy-one-get-one-free shopping deals when all we really want is milk," says Stevens
"At Jeanerations, you never have to worry about being side-tracked. The only thing you might struggle with is should you purchase the skinny jeans, or the low rise boot cut. The concept is ‘jeanius,’ really."
The shop, called Jeanerations, opened at 240 N. Milwaukee St. about a month ago.
Jeanerations sells a variety of designer, gently-used vintage jeans for affordable prices that run between $2.99 and $24.99. Men’s, women’s and children’s sizes are available. The shop carries about 700 pairs pf jeans at any given time, including Gap, Express, American Eagle, Liz Claiborne, Vera Wang, Levi’s, Guess, The Limited and more.
"We sell jeans from from low end to high end," says Stevens.
Stevens buys used jeans Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and offers sellers two payment options. "Dollars 4 Denim" pays cash for the jeans (30 percent of the projected sale price) and "Trade 4 Treasure" compensates with in-store credit of 50 percent of the projected resale value.
All jeans must be freshly laundered and have buttons and zippers in tact and be free of stains, rips, hairs or odors. Jeans must be presented in a bin, a bag or a box -- no hangers -- and all offers are non-negotiable.
"Our objective is to provide our customers the opportunity to enjoy resale or below-retail prices while shopping for an exclusive product. Our prices are reasonable and affordable so you don't have to break the bank to make a fashion statement," says Stevens.
By the middle of March, Stevens says Jeanerations will offer graphic T-shirts and accessories as well.
Stevens says she appreciates fashion of all kinds, but jeans have always been her favorite. Her love for denim is apparent on her Web site which provides historical information about denim pants -- including their origin -- for anyone who wants to know more.
Stevens says that she is new to the retail industry, but no stranger to shopping for good deals.
"I am a guru at finding a deal and wanting to save money. Being a mother and a consumer for so long I know saving time and money is very important," she says.
