Recently, I picked up a copy of Jenna Kashou’s new book, "100 Things To Do In Milwaukee Before You Die," and immediately flipped to the page featuring my favorite number, 22. Kashou’s 22nd suggestion was nothing short of kismet for me because it's something I can completely get behind: booze bubblers.

"Have an Old Fashioned from a bubbler at Drink Wisconsinbly" reads the copy, referring to the recently-relocated bar and restaurant’s bubblers / drinking fountains that actually dispense the classic Wisco cocktail. Consider it done, Jenna.

Published by Reedy Press, "100 Things To Do In Milwaukee Before You Die" is a fun, upbeat read filled with rites of passages for all Milwaukeeans – and must-dos for visitors. Suggestions range from Brew City basics like going to a Brewers game to more obscure agenda items like setting sail on the Denis Sullivan or stopping in at the iconic Art Smart’s Dart Mart on Brady Street.

"I wanted the book to be easy for people: easy for them to read, easy to engage with and easy to pass on to others at some point," says Kashou.

Through writing the book, Kashou says she discovered a few Milwaukee gems that she wasn't privy to before her research process.

"I had never been to Seven Bridges trail before and it’s absolutely beautiful. I also didn't think I liked custard, but had somehow never tried Leon’s, which is delicious, by the way," says Kashou.

Kashou currently lives in Whitefish Bay with her husband and two young children. She grew up in Mequon and graduated from the University of Iowa and received an advanced degree from Marquette University. She is a freelance writer and a regular contributor to Milwaukee Magazine.

"I love going out and having fun in our city. I also love being a resource for other people who want to check out more of Milwaukee," says Kashou.

Kashou says the publisher's offer to write the book came at the perfect time – the summer after her second child, Ruby, was born.

"It was such a special project because of what was happening in my life at the time," she says. "I was happy to do something that fueled my passion for the city and showed me how much it's changing. It made me feel really good about raising my family here and even more committed to helping make the city the best it can be."

The official launch party for "100 Things To Do In Milwaukee Before You Die" takes place Wednesday, May 1 at The Ivy House, 906 S. Barclay. For more event info, follow Jenna L. Kashou on Facebook.
