Almost. The Packers season of "almosts" continued Monday night in Seattle with a 34-24 loss. Just like against New Orleans, St. Louis and Buffalo, the Packers could have beaten the Seahawks. They didn't and they're now 4-7.

The defending NFC champion Seahawks were plenty wobbly in the first-half snow of the Pacific Northwest. Matt Hasselbeck did his best to help out his old team by throwing three interceptions and fumbling a ball that turned into an Abdul Hodge touchdown. Even with all of that charity, the Packers didn't cash in enough.

A personal foul penalty on Cullen Jenkins in the fourth quarter kept a Seattle touchdown drive alive and certainly was both questionable and costly. The loss cannot be pinned on that play alone. Two other plays stand out in my mind. The Packers were leading, 7-3, late in the first quarter and driving for more. Brett Favre lapsed into the bad habit of a late throw down the middle and Kelly Herndon picked the ball off in the end zone. It was a lost opportunity.

After a Charles Woodson interception, the Packers had another chance to put the Seahawks on the ropes early in the second quarter. A false start penalty on Daryn Colledge pushed the Packers back to third and goal from the 11. Instead of taking a shot at the end zone, Mike McCarthy called a draw to Vernand Morency. It was stopped well short and then Dave Rayner's field goal attempt was blocked. Zero points out of a golden opportunity. Those things always bite you. I understand the weather conditions played into the call -- but it seemed like a "safe and conservative" call when the Packers should be in a "nothing to lose" mode.

By the way, I'm not trying to save the cheerleader or the world. I just want to save Packers fans from having to put up with a Jimmy Kimmel interview during the game.

In the end, the Packers lost by 10, just like most people thought they would. It just was a whole lot more interesting and frustrating than perhaps they imagined.
