All month long, I’ve been running articles based on a series of "spelunking" trips to Racine, including stops at Wind Point Lighthouse, the Racine County Courthouse and some really beautiful old cream city brick schoolhouses.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: I love kringle and I love to multitask, so, on each of my visits to our southerly neighbor, I sought out a different kringle bakery to visit: O&H, Larsen, Bendtsen’s, Lehmann’s.

Next on my list to try is a kringle-related Wisconsin product that, surprisingly, doesn’t hail from Racine at all.

Kringle Cream is made by Death’s Door Spirits on Washington Island, up off the tip of Door County.

The sweet liqueur blends rum with Wisconsin cream and what it calls "natural kringle flavor," which I’m guessing is remonce – that Danish blend of butter and sugar that gives kringle its flavor and moisture boost – or a variation thereof.

The distillery’s website for the concoction – made, it says alluringly and mysteriously, according to an "old world formula" – includes a variety of tempting cocktails that sound like they’d be perfect sipping around a warming holiday hearth: Wisconsin Breakfast, with coffee; Macaroon, with coconut rum; and Chocolate Kringle, with creme de cacao.

You can also find a recipe for a Kringle Alexander on Facebook:

The label promises an experience that is buttery, nutty and sweet. I plan to find out for myself.
