Attention, hungry doughnut fans of West Allis. This November, help is on the way. Wisconsin's first Krispy Kreme is coming to Hwy. 100 and Dakota St.
"We have heard from many Wisconsin fans who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Krispy Kreme," said Larry Jaro, CEO of Glazed Investments LLC, the Krispy Kreme franchisee for Wisconsin, at a news conference Monday. "We are excited to be venturing into Wisconsin with this West Allis store, and we look forward to reaching out to many other Wisconsin communities in the months and years ahead."
Company officials aren't the only ones who are excited. More than 100 people showed up for the event for a chance to sample Krispy Kreme's unique doughnuts.
Many eager residents of the state have been e-mailing the company to learn more about Krispy Kreme's plans for our state.
"I wanted to know where the first Wisconsin store would be located so I could watch its progress and be one of the first to try the doughnuts locally," said Linda Miller of Muskego.
Krispy Kreme serves more than a dozen varieties of doughnuts, including the best-selling Hot Original Glazed. They produce their own doughnut mix and equipment to assure quality and consistency. Each store also offers beverages like fruit juices, soft drinks, bottled water and milk, plus a special Krispy Kreme blend of coffee.
The West Allis store will measure approximately 4,200 square feet and employ about 140 people. And if you get a craving after hours, the store will have a 24-hour drive-thru window. A glass viewing area will allow customers to watch the doughnuts being made.
Krispy Kreme, founded in 1937 in Winston-Salem, N.C. operates more than 190 stores in 31 states.
Customer seating will be available during store hours, which will be 5:30 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sun.-Thurs. and 5:30-1 a.m. on Fri.-Sat. Just look for the "Hot Doughnuts Now" neon sign, which lights up each time the doughnuts are being made.
"I am delighted that West Allis is the host of Wisconsin's debut Krispy Kreme location," said West Allis Mayor Jeannette Bell. "Krispy Kreme is a great addition to our city and state."
