On your marks, get set ... OK, it's not quite "go time" for the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, but it's fast approaching. Thus, now's the time to register or make sideline plans for the big event.
"This is a race about Milwaukee! If you don't want to train or run yourself, come cheer on the runners. We have participants from all over the United States, so let's show them some Milwaukee hospitality," says Lakefront Marathon spokesperson, Jen Puente.
Lakefront Marathon details
The 43rd edition of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon, Half Marathon, 5k Run and Walk The Hoan takes place in downtown Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 4, and Sunday, Oct. 5.
The 5k Run and Walk the Hoan kick things off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, and the Full and Half Marathons are on Sunday, starting at 7 a.m.
The Saturday events start and finish at Urban Park, 1070 E. Michigan St. The Sunday events leave from 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. (south side of the Baird Center on Wisconsin Avenue), and end at Urban Park. A post-race party is planned for both days in Urban Park.
The 5K Walk benefits This Time Tomorrow Foundation, which provides direct financial support to people battling cancer.
Wanna participate both days? Those who sign up for the 5K event on Saturday and either the Half or Full Marathon on Sunday are eligible for a special "Own The Hoan" medal.

Beautiful and iconic route
The race is known for its scenic route along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and participants get to cross the iconic Hoan Bridge. Here is a link to the route.
"This is the ONE event where you can walk or run on the Hoan Bridge. It is so cool to see Milwaukee from this perspective, especially when you are not zipping over the bridge in a vehicle," says Puente. "Many of our participants last year soaked up the views and took their time enjoying the experience."
