It’s hard to believe, but Leff’s Lucky Town in Wauwatosa is already celebrating 30 years of being one of the town’s most beloved bars.

Located conveniently across from Hart Park at 7208 W. State St., it’s been a go-to establishment for not only Tosa regulars, but parents and fans of Marquette University High School and Wauwatosa East football as well as, more recently, Milwaukee Torrent soccer. On any given game day, you’ll see a host of sports fans in the bar, either celebrating victories or shrugging off the agony of defeat. I stopped in on an afternoon visit in which the bar had already seen a fair share of patrons, putting their servers (human as well as one robotic one) to work.

A quick belly up to the bar would present you with a menu featuring a full array of things to eat and drink from their expansive menu – but on this visit, I opted for a Green Tea Collins from Leff’s. Despite the name, there isn’t actual green tea in the drink, though one could argue that it shares at least some of the healing properties. It certainly made my afternoon a bit cheerier. Now, of course, you could try one of these at home as well, but the key to enjoying any drink is the atmosphere that surrounds it, and Leff’s has provided that for three decades.

Green Tea Collins

  • 1 1/2 ounces Jameson whiskey
  • 3/4 ounces peach schnapps
  • 1 ounce sweet and sour miix
  • Fill with lemon-lime soda

At its core, a Green Tea Collins is a simple, yet effective drink. It doesn’t feel particularly overpowering, yet has a smoothness about it that goes down easy. Leff’s Lucky Town has a full menu of entrees to compliment your drink, or a late night menu with top-notch bar snacks depending on when you get there. In either case, get something to eat with your drink, settle in and enjoy an establishment that has become a Wauwatosa tradition. Cheers!
