It doesn’t matter whether or not you’ve been training hard, the Warehouse Beer Olympics take place this Saturday in Bay View and there’s still room for teams to enter and help round out the brackets.
The founding squads represent the breweries in the the Lincoln Warehouse – Component, New Barons and Torzala – and teams of four will compete in three events – beer pong, flip cup and quarters – on Saturday, July 22, from 2 until 6 p.m. at the Warehouse, 2018 S. 1st St.
Registration is $60 per team, to helps cover the cost of the beer used in the games, which are also a fundraiser for the Harbor District. Sign up at any of the Lincoln Warehouse breweries.
Teams should arrive at 12:45 to get set and registration ends at 1:30 p.m. The games begin at 2.
There will also be a silent auction with items from local businesses to help fund habitat improvements, reimagine improvements to large infrastructure like the breakwater and helping Harbor District businesses secure grants and other funding for sustainability improvements.
“We're going very traditional college drinking games for the competition on Saturday,” says Component’s Brad Vietrogoski. “Bracket-style competition.
“Beer pong will be standard 10-cup, two players per team, first team to sink a ball in all 10 cups wins and advances to the next round. Quarters will be the same: two players from each team bouncing quarters against two from the other for a set amount of time, and the most quarters in the glass in the middle of table wins and advances.
“Flip cup will be the full-team event, -on-4 on each side of the table. First team to drink their beer and flip all their cups top side down on the table wins and advances.”
There will also be a DJ on hand playing party music and Crafty Cow will be on site grilling burgers, too.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he lived until he was 17, Bobby received his BA-Mass Communications from UWM in 1989 and has lived in Walker's Point, Bay View, Enderis Park, South Milwaukee and on the East Side.
He has published three non-fiction books in Italy – including one about an event in Milwaukee history, which was published in the U.S. in autumn 2010. Four more books, all about Milwaukee, have been published by The History Press.
With his most recent band, The Yell Leaders, Bobby released four LPs and had a songs featured in episodes of TV's "Party of Five" and "Dawson's Creek," and films in Japan, South America and the U.S. The Yell Leaders were named the best unsigned band in their region by VH-1 as part of its Rock Across America 1998 Tour. Most recently, the band contributed tracks to a UK vinyl/CD tribute to the Redskins and collaborated on a track with Italian novelist Enrico Remmert.
He's produced three installments of the "OMCD" series of local music compilations for OnMilwaukee.com and in 2007 produced a CD of Italian music and poetry.
In 2005, he was awarded the City of Asti's (Italy) Journalism Prize for his work focusing on that area. He has also won awards from the Milwaukee Press Club.
He has be heard on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee talking about his "Urban Spelunking" series of stories, in that station's most popular podcast.
